Blogging For Money?

Remember about the article by Darren Rowse I'd mentioned in my previous post? Well, one of the reason that i am so interested with it was the possibilities of making money from a blog. I did hear about it before and most of the time i will set it away as just rumors, or should it be true, it might contribute to something around few hundred dollar at most. Never have I thought about the possibilities of making more than what you could earn from the normal career, let alone becoming a millionaire out of it.

Amazingly enough, after reading his articles and feedback's from fellow bloggers I've known, this possibility do exists. With diversity of opportunities and many options to choose from, it is easy to understand how these people can get their revenue just by blogging. In brief, I'll explain few of them base on my personal exploration, experiment and understanding.

The most common way of making money from blog(s) is via advertising programs, such as Adsense by Google. With Adsense, blog owners can enable text and image advertisements on their sites and each time a visitor visits a page with an AdSense tag, a piece of JavaScript writes an iframe tag, whose src attribute includes the URL of the page. Google's Adsense use the Cost-Per-Click(CPC) or Cost-per1000-Impressions(CPM) method. Your earning will be generated when your readers click on the CPC ads, or by dividing total publisher's earnings by the number of impressions in thousands for CPM ads for each time it appear on your page. Sound confusing, huh? Ok. Let say there's a US$100 earned from 25000 impressions, then your CPM will be US$100/25, which equal to US$4.00. You can assume this figure as fee paid to you for providing advertising space within your blog page. However, this fee that Google will pay you may varies, and the company doesn't disclose it's payment.

Another popular money making method is the affiliate programs, where you can take commission from referring your reader to a product or services provided by companies like Amazon, Clickbank and Linkshare. This will be a good program if your blog focuses on specific topic or products, but still it take some work to get the most out of them. Providing link to quality products or services to your readers may not be effective without recommendation and your personal endorsement, simply adapting the sense of trust that keeping the readers coming back to your blog.

Another method that some blogs use with reasonable effect is to sell T-Shirts, Mugs, Stickers etc with the blog’s name, logo and/or taglines on it. This is another idea that will probably only work if you either have a brilliantly designed merchandise range and/or you have a cult-like status as a blogger with some fanatical readers who are a little obsessive about your blog. Some blog topics lend themselves to this more than others.

Those are few options available if you are picturing yourself to make money from your blog. With a lot other systems and programs not stated in here, there's a possibilities that you may end up as a successful money maker from a blog. But then, ability to keep your traffic of readers coming over and over to your blog will definitely helps in generating more revenue.
